01 / BUYER GUIDE

Material Enquiry Checklist

For a faster and more accurate review, include as many of these details as possible:

  • Exact material grade and designation
  • Governing standard and grade variant, such as the required ASTM/EN/ASME specification
  • Product form: plate, sheet, coil, bar, pipe, tube, fitting, flange or fastener
  • Dimensions, schedule, wall thickness, finish and tolerance requirements
  • Quantity, unit of measure and whether cutting or processing is required
  • Delivery location and required delivery date
  • Inspection, test certificate, heat number traceability or other documentation requirements
  • Drawing, specification sheet or purchase-order notes where applicable

Grades & Standards

A material name alone may not fully define the product. The same broad family can have multiple grades, product standards, conditions and forms. When comparing alternatives, check that the grade, product form, dimensions, condition and governing standard all match the requirement.

Do not assume that similarly named grades are interchangeable. Confirm any proposed equivalent with the project engineer or responsible technical authority before ordering, especially for pressure, temperature, corrosion, structural or safety-critical service.

Certificates & Traceability

If your order requires a material test certificate (MTC/MTR), inspection certificate, heat number traceability, third-party inspection or a specific certification format, mention it before quotation. Requirements can affect source selection, lead time and documentation availability.

Always confirm that documents correspond to the actual supplied material, grade, heat/batch and applicable order requirements. A general product description is not a substitute for the required certificate.

04 / CALCULATION

Theoretical Weight vs Actual Weight

Weight calculators estimate mass from nominal dimensions and assumed material density. Actual supplied weight can differ because of dimensional tolerances, density variation, surface finish, mill tolerances, corner radii, coatings and manufacturing processes.

Use the estimate for planning only. For commercial or engineering use, verify the governing specification and supplier data.

05 / COMMON QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I enquire about a grade that is not listed?

Yes. The catalogue includes both regular product families and products that may be procured against enquiry. Send the exact grade, standard, form, dimensions and quantity so availability can be reviewed.

Does a catalogue listing confirm stock?

No. A listing identifies a product family or grade that can be discussed. Current stock, exact size, lot quantity, lead time and documentation are confirmed against the individual enquiry.

Can you quote from a drawing or bill of materials?

Include the drawing or bill of materials with your enquiry where the contact channel supports attachments. Identify revision number, material grades, dimensions, quantities and any required processing.

Are weight-chart values guaranteed actual weights?

No. They are theoretical estimates based on stated dimensions and density assumptions. Actual weight depends on product tolerances, material and manufacturing conditions.

What should I provide for pipe enquiries?

Share nominal pipe size, schedule or wall thickness, material grade, product standard, seamless/welded requirement, length, quantity, end preparation and required certificates.

Can you provide cutting, bending or welding?

Processing enquiries are reviewed for material suitability, dimensions, drawing, tolerances and machine capability. Final feasibility and scope must be confirmed for each job.
