METAL WEIGHT CALCULATOR

Metal weight calculator for every shape.

Calculate the theoretical weight of plates, sheets, round, square and hex bars, pipes, round and square tubes, angles and flats in mild steel, stainless steel, alloy steel, aluminium, copper, brass, titanium and nickel alloys. Enter sizes in mm or inches, add quantity and rate per kg, and get total weight and cost.

Frequently asked questions

How do you calculate steel plate weight?

Weight (kg) = length (m) × width (m) × thickness (mm) × density (g/cm³). For mild steel at 7.85 g/cm³, a 2,500 × 1,250 × 10 mm plate weighs 2.5 × 1.25 × 10 × 7.85 = 245.3 kg.

What is the formula for round bar weight?

Weight per metre (kg/m) = diameter² (mm) × 0.006165 for mild steel. For stainless steel multiply by 7.93/7.85, or use the calculator with the material selected.

How do you calculate pipe weight per metre?

Weight (kg/m) = π/4 × (OD² − ID²) × density / 1000 with dimensions in mm. For carbon steel this simplifies to (OD − t) × t × 0.02466, where t is the wall thickness.

Is calculated weight the same as actual weight?

No. It is the theoretical weight from nominal size and density. Actual weight varies within the mill tolerances on thickness, diameter and length.
